Summer Creative Retreat 2026 - Join me!

It’s that time of year, y’all! I’m teaching at Summer Creative Retreat again this year, and I want you to get colourful with me! I’ll be teaching a workshop LIVE (we’re all live!) called: Colour Values Made Effortless and it’s gonna be so much fun. I promise, you’re going to love it.

Colour Values Made Effortless by Jen Dixon is a Summer Creative Retreat 2026 workshop.

My Summer Creative Retreat 2026 workshop includes this helpful PDF.

August 1-6, 2026

It’s a free online creative event hosted by The Pigeon Letters, happening August 1-6 (all day, every day!), with live workshops from artists across all kinds of mediums. 50+ instructors. Every major medium. Sessions throughout the day to fit your schedule wherever you are in the world.
AND, there are replays available to all - FREE - all week long, so you won’t miss a thing. And if you REALLY don’t want to miss a thing, I suggest you grab the Permanent Vacation pass to get lifetime access. Watch at your own pace, on your schedule. It’s insanely affordable at the Early Bird price before the event at just $79. For 50+ workshops. I know, right?!?

But there are other bonuses that come with that pass too… stuff like: workbooks, templates, toolkits, digital brushes and stamps, and so much more. Many are exclusively available on the Permanent Vacation only, like mine, which is a totally different project all in itself! I’ll show a little teaser image of it below, AND there is another bonus I’m giving away to all attendees - free seats AND vacation pass holders - that is only available if you hit the link on my workshop page during the event.
I love this event so dang much.

My session is going to have you playing with colour and I designed it to feel approachable, satisfying, and actually doable in one sitting. You can register free here: Claim Your Seat to the Summer Creative Retreat! (heh heh, that rhymed)

Tell me more about your workshop, Jen

Okie dokie! If you’ve ever taken one of my many Skillshare classes, or had workshop or private tuition time with me, you know I am BIG on getting you familiar with your materials and the fundamentals of art. I finally figured out what my thing is- I create “pill in the peanut butter” classes.
Dog owners, you get me already.
What do I mean? And what if you have a nut allergy? Don’t worry, I am not actually going to hold your mouth open and stuff some peanut butter covered art fundamentals down your throat. Rather, I like taking the stuff we all try to skip over when we’re learning, rethink what holds us back about them, and then I make the “pill” - the fundamentals - approachable.
Like covering a pill in peanut butter for a dog. The dog doesn’t even know they’re taking that pill because it’s covered in yummy yummy. I cover the stuff you might normally avoid in yummy yummy.
I put the FUN in FUNdamentals. See what I did there? My mom would totally have groaned out loud to that.

Wait, is this like one of those online recipes where I have to read about your mom before we get to the workshop details?

No. I’m getting to it. Cool your jets, Cap’n Impatient-pants.

Let’s look at a picture*. It’s the one I’m using to rep my workshop on the Summer Creative Retreat. You remember that event, right? I know, this is like Alice’s Restaurant now… “remember Alice? It’s a song about Alice…”

Colour is a beast. The topic of colour is a bigger beast. I’m not going to teach you about colour in the ways that you’ve seen and/or avoided before. There are a million ways to do that, and chances are, you aren’t excited about them. I get it. Colour theory is a minefield and I’m not gonna send you into it wearing giant clown shoes, shouting GOOD LUCK WITH THAT COLOUR MINEFIELD, CAP’N BIG SHOES from the sidelines. I have a better - 45 minute workshop-friendly - way to get you using colour more comfortably and creating art with more depth and dimension immediately. And you can use crayons to do it. Or oil or chalk pastels, or coloured pencils, or markers… You already have the materials you need, I betting. And it’s gonna be fun. And I’m gonna slip that fundamental stuff into a yummy yummy that will have your electric skull meat buzzing with excitement.

Come hang out with me and, like, a gazillion of the most delightful, creative, blissful people you’ll ever meet. I am there all week… I teach a workshop once, but I hang out all week for pretty much EVERY session (in the live chat) because I love this event, the vibe, the projects SO DANG MUCH.

I can’t wait to see you there.
(And seriously, grab that Permanent Vacation pass if you can. Same link. So worth it.)

*I put the picture down here because I was in flow while I was typing. I think I miss blogging. I’ll do it more, I promise. Because humans connecting with humans is so much better than AI. I’ll always write this stuff myself, because our uniquely human way of being creative matters. xx

You’ll make little studies like this. You’ll understand colour values better when we’re done.
